Another TV show with Glitter: The People’s Strictly

This week, we’ve seen the launch of a new version of one of our favourite shows ‘Strictly Come Dancing’: The People’s Strictly.

In this show, instead of celebrities, we will see real-life heroes dancing and singing on the famous ballroom floor.

But what we most like of the show is the setting, because there is glitter EVERYWHERE!! The show was launched this week and it will last for 28 days! – So if you haven’t seen it yet, you have still plenty of time to see our Glitter!

Stars in Their Eyes is back!

The nation’s favourite has been missing from our Saturday night viewing since December 2006 when it was last hosted by Cat Deeley. The very first show, way back in 1990 was hosted by Lesley Crowther, saw the first 5 contestants step through the doors & smoke, transformed into stars Kylie Minogue, Shirley Bassey, John Lennon, Frank Sinatra & Roger Whitaker.

As the lights changed, the music started & they gave it their all. The set was fairly simple in its design but the clear change of lighting colours gave each contestant a set which looked different to the one before it. Simple but effective .

Take a look back to the first ever show from 21st July 1990 in here.

Its was a huge success & a Saturday night viewing hit was born, peaking in the 1990s under best known & loved host, Matthew Kelly who fronted the show for 11 years.

“Tonight Matthew I’m going to be…“ couldn’t resist it!

The revamped 2015 has a new host – madcap Harry Hill, who incidentally once performed as Morrissey on the show. Harry brings his own unique zany style to the show. Its early doors & his slapstick, don’t take us too serious style has divided opinion, but one thing that isn’t in doubt for us anyway is the sensational stage set. More glamorous than ever, the designer cleverly uses Glitter Jazz Platinum to add all the sparkle these look-a-like, sound-a-like stars can handle while making full use it’s capability to carry vibrant colour with every lighting colour change flick of the switch. Every act gets a new look.

I know we bleat on about Glitter fabric but this is a great example of just how versatile it is. It really is a perfect for stage sets. It’s no wonder that the cameras & set designers love it.

Here are just a few of the colour changes this one silver glitter set above under went in one show.

Bbrown Glitter in Garsons Christmas display

If you live in Surrey or Hampshire, you must have seen the fantastic Christmas displays at Garsons garden centres.

They’ve been voted the best Christmas garden centre in the South Thames region by the Garden Centre Association for their Christmas displays, decoration and gifts.

Best Christmas

And we’ve spotted some bbrown glitter! (They obvious choice for an award-winning display in our eyes)

They’ve used three different colours of glitter from bbrown display materials to reach the festive Christmassy look they were looking for.

We think the centre has created the perfect place for people to go and buy Christmas trees and decorations while they enjoy a family day out surrounded by a beautiful Christmassy environment.

What’s more, to make the festive season even more magical, they even have a real reindeer!

We don’t need to go to America to see celebrities surrounded by beautiful bbrown glitter, we can see them in Britain too!

Have a look at the images.

“Poppies on The Green.”

Poppies on The Green.”  29th Oct – 11th Nov 2014

A temporary memorial for the Childwickbury Fallen of WW1

“Have you news of my boy Jack?”

Not this tide.

“When d’you think that he’ll come back?”

Not with this wind blowing and this tide.

This is the first verse of a poem written by Rudyard Kipling in remembrance of his son who was killed during the First World War. The loss it speaks of, that of a parent for their child is universally understood and which transcends religion, race and border.

As a member of the “Battlefield Trust”, a charity dedicated to the preservation of battle site heritage, I was keen to take the opportunity of this centenary year and find some way to mark the passing of the 16 Childwickbury men who lived and worked on the estate and who lost their lives in this same conflict.

Throughout various projects we often have cause to ask the questions, “Why we should remember?” And, “What form remembrance should take?” the simple truth is this, that loss, remembrance, and commemoration mean different things to different people.

With this in mind it was a challenge to find a fitting way to celebrate these men, who unlike so many others, have no permanent memorial. In the end however, it is the men themselves who speak the loudest.

SONY DSC

For the two weeks leading up to Armistice Day, an installation of 16 large, identical poppies populated the village green and its surrounding area, a place the men would have known well.  Each bloom beard the name, age and address of a single man. For these two weeks they stood sentinel, while present day residents and visitors went about their daily lives. Supported on rods made from wood gathered around the estate, they existed apart from the fabric of the green, in the village, but no longer of it. For a short while both time lines converging.

These memorial poppies invited residents, visitors and passers-by to take a moment to reflect and consider in their own private way not what separates us, but what binds us together, the fact that we, all of us, walk in their shoes.

The intention of this piece was not the glorification of war, religion or state, but was simply this, an opportunity to say their names aloud.
